When the chips are flying, KUKA makes its mark
Hanover/Augsburg, May 2009 – A handsome world record holder that can set up a maypole weighing hundreds of kilos entirely unaided. An agile all-rounder that is no stranger to multitasking. And a charming highflier with stacks of arguments in its favor. All this was on show at LIGNA last week for the many visitors who gathered at the booth of KUKA Roboter GmbH. With a creative show concept, the Augsburg-based leader in innovation was exhibiting for the first time at the flagship fair for the forestry and wood industries. KUKA used the international platform at LIGNA to unveil its brand-new palletizing robots KR 300 PA, KR 470 PA and KR 700 PA to a global audience.
At the KUKA booth, over 83,000 LIGNA visitors had the opportunity to see how the Bavarian robots combined Bavarian tradition with state-of-the-art technology. The KUKA heavy-duty robot KR 1000 titan, which won an award for its design and is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s strongest robot, set up a maypole for an impressed crowd of spectators; this was duly decorated by the nimble KR 40 PA. The KR 700 PA, which boasts the fastest throughput time in its payload category, made its world debut at LIGNA with its own weighty contribution to the May-time celebrations: the palletizing robot effortlessly stacked up 700-liter wooden barrels.
With the world premiere of its new palletizers, KUKA Roboter GmbH has demonstrated just how important the wood industry is for the company. The stacking experts KR 300 PA, KR 470 PA and KR 700 PA have a whole range of optimized palletizing applications up their sleeves, not just for the wood and furniture industry, but also for many other sectors. With the market launch of the three robots, KUKA is rounding out its product portfolio to cover what is probably the world’s widest available range of palletizing robots. They are characterized by extremely short cycle times and long reaches, and can be used to implement virtually any customer-specific palletizing solution for a payload range from 40 kg to 1,300 kg.
